One such setting enables file-system integration, which assigns a drive letter to your online storage area-a pretty neat feature that goes beyond what SkyDrive offers. It also makes many more optional settings available to you. This pseudo-install lets you allow Wuala to start when your computer starts, create a desktop icon, and remember your account. Some account features require you to "install" Wuala on your PC, though this doesn't really create a Program entry or folders on the system. You can choose from over 50 clever icons to represent you (the default is a cute orange dinosaur), or you can create your own by pasting an image. Once you've completed your profile, you can enter a Facebook or Skype account, which lets you find Wuala users among your friends in those services. When setting up your account, you create a profile, which can optionally contain an image, your country of residence, the date you were born, your gender, and tags. This is for extra security, but it also means that you'd really better not forget your password. Unlike most online-storage services, Wuala offers no password reminder. Your password serves as the encryption key for your private files, which you alone can retrieve-even Caleido employees can't. It does require somewhat more RAM than the purely browser-based SkyDrive, though navigation is quicker than with the Microsoft service, since you don't have to wait for page loads.Īnyone can see Wuala's publicly shared World folder without creating an account, but to take advantage of the service's benefits, you need to sign up. Wuala does not, however, run within your browser-it's a separate Java application. Assuming you've got that, you just click on the Start button on the wua.la home page to launch the Java app. Wuala requires no download, but you'll need to have Sun's Java runtime installed. AOL's ill-fated Xdrive, with its Adobe AIR desktop client, resembles Wuala even more, but that service is being discontinued. But SkyDrive gives you 5GB of free storage, compared with the mere 1GB Wuala offers gratis. The new service, whose Web site is located at wua.la, competes directly with Freedrive and Microsoft's Windows Live SkyDrive, which also have public, shared, and private online folders. Though this means that your files may be stored on strangers' PCs, the files are encrypted and sliced up so that a whole file won't be on any single user's system. This beta service's publicly shared media folders resemble what you'd find in a peer-to-peer file-sharing service, as does the option to add more storage to your account by volunteering part of your hard drive to the service's storage grid, thereby saving the company bandwidth costs. Thiele adds, "While taxonomists would have the final say on how to recognize and name species, the process ensures that stakeholders' needs are considered when deciding between differing taxonomic opinions."Īccording to Garnett, the list is an important step in managing and conserving all the world's species.Wuala gives online storage a new spin with peer-to-peer storage-grid technology and a Java-based Web application with community features. The new paper outlines a potential solution to the problem.ĭr Kevin Thiele, Director of Taxonomy Australia and a co-author on the paper, said that the list "clearly defines the roles of taxonomists – the scientists who discover, name and classify species – and stakeholders such as conservationists and government and international agencies." Organisations like the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (Cites) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) acknowledge only one of the two. The report highlights the need for such a list by bringing to the fore scientific evidence indicating the African elephant could be two species – the forest elephant and the savanna elephant. Pashas ranked above Beys and Aghas, but below Khedives and Viziers. It was also part of the official style of the Kapudan Pasha (Grand Admiral of the Ottoman fleet). The title Pasha appears originally to have applied exclusively to military commanders and only high ranking family of the sultans, but subsequently it could distinguish any high official, and also unofficial persons whom the court desired to honour. His successors to the Egyptian and Sudanese throne, Ibrahim, Abbas, Sa'id, and Isma'il also inherited these titles, with Pasha, and Wāli ceasing to be used in 1867, when the Ottoman Sultan, Abdülaziz officially recognised Isma'il as Khedive. As such, he bore the title of Pasha, in addition to the official title of Wāli, and the self-declared title of Khedive. Moreover, Muhammad Ali harboured ambitions of supplanting the Osman Dynasty in Constantinople (now Istanbul), and sought to style his Egyptian realm as a successor sultanate to the Ottoman Empire. The rise to power in Egypt in 1805 by Muhammad Ali, an Albanian military commander, effectively established Egypt as a de facto independent state, however, it still owed technical fealty to the Ottoman Sultan. It was through this custom that the title ( Egyptian Arabic pronunciation: ) came to be used in Egypt, which was conquered by the Ottomans in 1517. Lucy Mary Jane Garnett wrote in the 1904 work Turkish Life in Town and Country that it was the sole "Turkish title which carries with it any definite rank and precedence". Within the Ottoman Empire, the Sultan had the right to bestow the title of Pasha. Role in Ottoman and Egyptian political system Due to the Ottoman presence in the Arab world, the title became used frequently in Arabic, though pronounced basha due to the absence of the /p/ sound in Arabic. The English forms bashaw, bassaw, bucha, etc., general in the 16th and 17th century, derive through the medieval Latin and Italian word bassa. Īs first used in western Europe, the title appeared in writing with the initial "b". Some earlier Turkish lexicographers, such as Ahmed Vefik Paşa and Mehmed Salahi, argued it was most likely derived from Turkish başa or Turkish beşe, the latter meaning "elder brother" and being a title given to some Ottoman provincial officials and janissaries. According to etymologist Sevan Nişanyan, the word is derived from Turkish beşe ( بچّه, "boy, prince"), which is cognate with Persian bačče ( بچّه). Some theories have posited a Turkish or Turkic origin of the word, claiming it derived from başağa ( bāş āghā), which denoted a "principal elder brother" or "prince’s elder son" in the pre-Ottoman period. Jean Deny also attributed its origin to padishah, while repeating a suggestion by Gerhard Doerfer that it was influenced by Turkic baskak ( bāsqāq), meaning "agent, tax collector". The same view is held by Nicholas Ostler, who mentions that the word was formed as a shortening of the Persian word padishah. Bacharach, the word is "more than likely derived from the Persian Padishah" ( پادشاه). According to Oxford Dictionaries, the Turkish word from which it was borrowed was formed as a result of the combination of the Pahlavi words pati- "lord", and shah ( □□□□). Īccording to Online Etymology Dictionary, the Turkish pasha or basha was itself from Turkish baş / bash ( باش, "head, chief"), itself from Old Persian pati- ("master", from Proto-Indo-European * poti) and the root of the Persian word shah, شاه. Old Turkish had no fixed distinction between /b/ and /p/, and the word was spelled başa still in the 15th century. 1324), though it had been used before the Ottomans by some Anatolian Turkish rulers of the same era. Contrary to titles like emir ( amīr) and bey ( beg), which were established in usage much earlier, the title pasha came into Ottoman usage right after the reign of the Osman I (d. The etymology of the Turkish word itself has been a matter of debate. The Oxford Dictionaries attributes the origin of the English borrowing to the mid-17th century. The English word "pasha" comes from Turkish pasha ( pāşā also basha ( bāşā)). The title was also used in Morocco in the 20th century, where it denoted a regional official or governor of a district. As an honorary title, Pasha, in one of its various ranks, is similar to a British peerage or knighthood, and was also one of the highest titles in the 20th-century Kingdom of Egypt. Pasha ( Ottoman Turkish: پاشا Turkish: paşa Arabic: باشا, romanized: basha) was a higher rank in the Ottoman political and military system, typically granted to governors, generals, dignitaries, and others. Taking the time to reflect on our habits (both the good and bad) is a great way to make sure we are constantly challenging ourselves to do better. No matter your goals, Atomic Habits offers a proven framework for improving-every day. They should be something we look forward to doing. Our habits should be our motivators and keep us engaged in our goals. If you set out to write a book and haven’t finished one chapter, maybe the habits you set are not working and need to be changed. Habits are great tools to help us accomplish our goals, but as we evolve and complete certain goals or set new ones, it’s important to look back and assess our habits and progress. In other words, when you’re starting a new habit, make sure it’s enjoyable so it will last. Providing immediate reinforcement tells the brain to keep going back to an activity, whereas delayed satisfaction is not as effective. There’s a reason why you book your next workout class right after you finish one and then a couple of days later debate whether to go. The same tactic is effective when forming a new habit. We return to these actions over and over again because we remember how satisfying they were. It’s a cardinal rule in life that we repeat actions that are satisfying: eating ice cream on a hot summer day, consistently working out and releasing endorphins, or online shopping and receiving a package in the mail. We value the opinions of those around us, which is exactly why an accountability partner can work to help build better habits. Another version of this is an accountability buddy: someone who can help keep you accountable for your actions, understands your commitment, and can check in on you (read: a friend, partner, family member, coworker, coach, etc.). For example, if you want to stop buying coffee every day, you can decide to leave your wallet at home to reduce temptation. A commitment device is a choice made in the present to help control your actions in the future. This is where a commitment device or accountability partner comes in. We all start off with the best of intentions when we decide to form a new habit, but then life gets in the way and it becomes easy to forget why we wanted to start the habit in the first place. You have to start small before you move on to bigger and better habits.Ī post shared by H A N N A S C H Ö N B E R G Try a commitment device or accountability partner The more the process is ritualized, the easier it will be to continue. If you want to work out more, start with jumping jacks for two minutes, or if you want to have a meditation practice, set the timer for two minutes–you get the idea. If you want to read more before bed each night, start by reading one page. If the goal is to write a book, start by writing one sentence each day. The idea is to scale down a habit so that it is more attractive and you are more likely to continue repeating the habit. As Clear said, “It is easier to associate a new habit with a new context than to build a new habit in the face of competing cues.” It’s no wonder working from home can be more difficult if you don’t have a designated space to do so.Ĭlear’s two-minute rule states that when you start a new habit, it shouldn’t take longer than two minutes to complete. Once we understand the relationships we have with the spaces we occupy, we can use that knowledge to help form better habits and break unproductive ones. Working from the comfort of your bed may sound nice but can be much more difficult if your bed is already associated with a place of rest. If every night before you go to sleep you lie in bed and watch TV, over time your bed will be associated as a place where you watch TV. All of these different spaces can affect our habits for better or worse. We are both victims and architects of our environments-AKA the home we live in and where we go to work and exercise. Sometimes when and where you choose to execute a habit can make a big difference. Set the intention, say it aloud, and then insert the new habit into your routine. If your morning routine consists of waking up, brushing your teeth, and pouring a cup of coffee, insert “meditate for five minutes” before you have your coffee. For example, if you want to create the habit of meditating each morning but find yourself forgetting or not having the time, the best way to fix this is by inserting it with another habit. Habit stacking is a formula for ensuring that your new habits don’t fall to the wayside. The easiest way to introduce a new habit into your daily routine is to implement it with other habits you already have. A post shared by Free People Movement Start habit stacking Today, according to its rules Yale would unequivocally say that Bloom’s behavior was wrong and that he would be subject to discipline. This doesn’t mean that Yale’s current policies aren’t sound. Naomi Wolf extrapolates broadly from her experience with Yale today to suggest that “the atmosphere of collusion that had helped to keep me quiet twenty years ago was still intact-as secretive as a Masonic lodge.” Let’s stipulate for the sake of argument that Yale has not dealt well with Naomi Wolf in the months since she excavated the Bloom incident. This may sound like splitting hairs, but it’s not. Meanwhile, we still don’t know whether, according to Yale’s policy at the time-a “discouragement policy”-Bloom could have been fired or censured for his action had she brought a grievance. But Wolf acknowledges that what transpired was not, strictly speaking, sexual harassment. Wolf says she fended him off and vomited in the sink and that Bloom packed up the sherry and snapped, “You are a deeply troubled girl.” Bloom’s neglect of his academic duties (he failed to meet with her for the rest of the semester and then gave her a B) is itself troubling, and his come-on isn’t pretty. Afterward, he cornered her and breathed, “You have the aura of election upon you.” “The next thing I knew his heavy, boneless hand was hot on my thigh,” she tells us. Finally Bloom invited himself over for dinner at her house-Wolf lived with one of his graduate editorial assistants and her boyfriend-during which he drank several glasses of Amontillado. Somehow much of the semester “slipped away” without a meeting. Wolf’s allegation against Bloom is this: During her senior year, in 1983, she took an independent study with him. She makes a dangerous extrapolation from the personal to the political-but the personal undermines the cause that is the pretext for writing the piece in the first place. This is typical of the way in which Wolf’s article is disingenuous. We don’t know, since Wolf never tried to find out how Yale would have handled the charge. Yale’s response to her disclosure of a 1983 offense is not necessarily predictive of its response to a present-day offense-not just because the statute of limitations for what Bloom did to Wolf expired 18 years ago, but also because what Bloom did may not have been explicitly wrong by Yale’s standards at the time and by law (though from our vantage point it looks sleazy). When it doesn’t, she says that Yale must not be truly “accountable to the equality of women.” This is a kind of bait and switch. What it seems she really wants from Yale is for its administration to bend over backward for her now that she’s come forward, and thus prove that it really, really cares about its students. Yale’s Grievance Board statement is posted here-and is easily available as the kind of standard response she allows us to believe, for much of the piece, that the college doesn’t have. Both her evidence and her reasoning are deeply flawed. Develop and customize your forces through a detailed technology tree and upgradeable leader characters that can be assigned to your units. The races are fine, as are the courses and mechanics. Luckily, the CPU will regularly do that on several courses.Īt a truly budget price, Chocobo GP might be an interesting proposition, but as it stands right now it just feels too lackluster to justify. Unfortunately it doesn’t matter what items you get - a disastrous first lap means you won’t be coming in first place unless your opponents keep falling off the track. Courses are also very short, and three laps zip by in no time, meaning mistakes are far more costly than you might think. Knocking into a wall slows your speed drastically, and building it back up to get into the race again isn’t as simple as you might think. That’s not to mention that once you fall behind, it’s very hard to catch up. It’s a nice boost when you’re falling behind, but it’s likely that every racer on the course will earn this ability at some point, even if they’re in first place - it makes it a bit meaningless. But unlike the rest of the items, this can come when you’re in any position. You can’t drift while in this mode, but your handling is instantly improved, allowing you to navigate around the tightest of corners with the precision of a Titanfall 2 speedrunner. It’s like an instant Mario Kart Bullet Bill, pushing you along the track. Meanwhile, collecting crystals around courses will charge a meter that allows your driver to burst forward at speed, invulnerable to attacks. Once you play and replay courses, you can predict that absurd slide and tackle turns with precision, but regardless of how you master the drift it never feels good to actually execute. Your character just slides right around corners as if gliding on oil. Instead of feeling like your tires are burning rubber as you skid tight to corners, it all feels frictionless. The drift is the perfect example of this. When a race starts you hold accelerate on the 2 to get a sneaky boost, you drift around corners and you collect items to fling at your foes - it’s the Mario Kart formula, but it just does not feel as refined. But these aren’t the most stunning environments – they’re barely recognizable. They look nice enough, but a game like this has the opportunity to race through some of the most stunning environments from the Final Fantasy series. After being spoiled with the kind of tracks you can speed through in Mario Kart, Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed, and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, the courses in Chocobo GP are just… bland. A nice feature, and a rare something Mario Kart could really do with adding.īut now that we’re through with what makes Chocobo GP stand out, it’s time to discuss what makes it entirely forgettable. Chocobo GP includes local and online multiplayer modes, in addition to an online tournament mode for the players who want to prove they’re the best. Of course a game like this truly shines when it’s time for multiplayer mayhem. It’s short, it’s sweet, and it’s a nice distraction. Winning without taking damage will result in a Perfect Race, which is an accolade you must achieve on every course if you plan on 100% mastering the story campaign. Instead of just tasking you with coming in first place, you must finish ahead of certain characters or complete courses within a specified timeframe. The win conditions of those story races are much better. You’ll find yourself reaching for the skip button after several minutes of inane chatter between the cast - it’s clearly aimed at a younger audience. It’s a premise, I’ll give it that, but not a particularly engaging one. The story is told in very simple cinematic cutscenes, with 3D characters standing on 2D backgrounds as they discuss their reasons for racing. One is an actual story mode that follows your main Chocobo and his friends taking on the world in a racing tournament. There are a few things that make it stand out other than the Final Fantasy branding, though. Unfortunately, Chocobo GP just doesn’t hold up to its contemporaries. Even the base mechanics of drifting around corners to charge up a quick boost are intact. They’re both cute, family-friendly kart racers with a colorful variety of characters, courses, and items to experiment with. No matter how you slice it, comparisons between Chocobo GP and Mario Kart are impossible to avoid, especially considering that the Final Fantasy racer is launching alongside a new season of DLC for everyone’s favorite plumber: Waluigi. All in all, March is already proving to be an incredibly busy month for games, so it just might be the worst possible time for Chocobo GP to come out. But even the hardcore racing crowd is catered to this month thanks to Gran Turismo 7, which has received widespread critical acclaim. It’s a time for the resilient Mario Kart community to celebrate. This month sees the release of brand new DLC for the beloved Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the best-selling game on Nintendo Switch and one of the greatest kart racers ever made. Destroy All Humans! Nope just got infinite grenades, search using unknown initial value and then increasing/decreasing on 8 bytes value type. There isn't even a Save Game on the pc (Save Game folder is empty). Since you mentioned having the same problem with grenades and health stims though I'll try to figure those out instead since maybe they're the same problem.Ĭan't play the game without internet, i guess most stuff is simply server sided.damn. The research points thing is especially a pain to keep checking different values, since as far as I know the only way to change it in-game is either dying or spending quite a while walking around looking for dinosaurs. But even though it is persistent across restarts it still doesn't let me buy upgrades somehow. Interestingly enough, when I changed my research points to 10000 in the main menu, it had only a visual effect of course, but upon restarting the game many times the value is staying at something like 49642929 blah blah, a very big number like that. This makes me think we are just missing something here as opposed to all those being server side. I wonder could those actually be server side or are they just obfuscating everything except ammo? It seems strange that ammo would be client side but grenades would be server side. I see you mentioned the grenades and health stim etc. Unless you've given it a go and gotten it to work? If so could you explain please? I've spent hours trying (working down the long list of potential pointers that show up) and got nothing so I'm getting a bit frustrated now since this should be relatively simple lol. Developer Systemic Reaction has announced that its cooperative first-person shooter Second Extinction is now available for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series XS via Xbox Game Pass. I found ammo in basically a few seconds with exact value and it works functionally as well as visually so I'm starting to suspect the exp and stuff is server side. Which wound up being the same address I find with a simple exact value 4 byte search in cheat engine, just being read as a float instead. Microsoft has announced new titles coming to Xbox Game Pass for Console and PC in late April, including Phogs, Second Extinction, and Destroy All Humans Get the details below. Over on Steam the game has received a mostly positive reception in its Early Access. Had no luck so far, can the game be played without internet?Īhh I tried increased/decreased value for the exp and points, all I wound up with was float values of something x E-44. Second Extinction joins Xbox Game Pass today but has already been available on Steam for awhile. Try searching for increased / decreased value (this way i found 2 values instead of just one). Are they all server side?Īs i mentiond above the visible values doesn't seem to be correct (i always find just one value which can't be changed). Ammo is easy but the points stuff isn't working, even tried editing it in the menu, visually it works but can't buy any upgrades with it.Īnyone got this? I really don't wanna grind out all the parts and stuff. I can find values that are equal to what it says ingame but if I change them they just revert back to normal upon gaining more points or dying and no luck finding pointers.
